Peter Wilkinson, head of the Corporate Affairs division at Wilkinson and IPREX Asia Pacific President, is a veteran broadcast journalist with 30 years experience who originally founded Wilkinson Media in 2002 and has since gone on to run some of Australia’s most significant corporate affairs campaigns.
As an expert in crisis, issues and corporate brand management, Peter provides counsel to some of Australia’s leading companies and business figures and regularly commentates on the industry at large.
Woosh is the Wilkinson Group’s consumer division representing high-profile FMCG and lifestyle brands from around the world. In 2007, Tiger Airways entered Australia as the new ‘low fare kid on the block’ with an aggressive proven business model based on some of Europe’s most successful and profitable airlines including EasyJet and Ryanair. Once established, exceptional media cut-through was vital to give the airline the kick-start it needed in a fiercely competitive domestic aviation market, a task Tiger Airways entrusted to Wilkinson.
Our ongoing campaign has championed the consumer benefits of increased aviation competition, through approaches including a consumer awareness ‘buzz’ campaign and by teaming up with NRL’s West Tigers team for a high profile launch stunt involving players pulling a Tiger Airways aircraft from its Melbourne hangar prior to the maiden Sydney voyage.
Wilkinson’s campaign has generated mass media coverage across all spectrums of press, including radio and television, and helped generate significant ticket sales despite Tiger Airways’ almost complete reliance on media relations in place of advertising, all up demonstrating the effectiveness of a well planned and well targeted media relations campaign that has continued to pay dividends post-launch.
