Saxum in action – a case study – George Kaiser Family Foundation:
George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF) is a multi-billion dollar foundation dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through investments in early childhood education, community health, social services and civic enhancement. To maximize its efforts, GKFF hired Saxum to provide strategic counsel regarding public and media relations, community giving, outreach and communications with target audiences.
Saxum works on a number of initiatives, including:
• Female incarceration: developed strategies to raise awareness of the issue. Saxum helped drive passage of legislation, garnered thousands of new advocates, promoted educational programs and secured mass media coverage.
• Race to the Top: Saxum worked with GKFF to promote legislation that would enhance the state’s educational system and support its Race to the Top application. Although Oklahoma was not selected for federal funding, GKFF, with Saxum’s support, is now promoting implementation of the program by the state.
• George Kaiser is one of 40 of the richest people in America, who, as part of an effort, led by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet, pledged to donate more than half of their wealth to charities. Saxum garnered appropriate recognition for Kaiser’s participation in the “Giving Pledge.”
